It may still be winter right now, but there’s never a pause in the everchanging world of fashion. So what better way to shake off those winter blues than by preparing your new season wardrobe, with plenty of time to spare. The SS/17 fashion trends are already making their welcome appearance on the catwalks, and there’s lots of looks to get excited about this year. TRANSPARENCY This trend does what it says on the tin. It’s a bold look not for the faint hearted. Sheer fabrics dominated the catwalk shows this season, and for good reason. The transparency trend is best worn by layering a sheer chiffon or tulle garment of choice over the top of tightfitting clothes. An oversized silhouette is the order of the day here.
STATEMENT SLEEVES This is an unusual one. Imagine yourself with very long arms and you’ll soon start to picture what statement sleeves are all about. Sort of like when you buy a jumper that’s far too big, and letting the cuffs hang down past
your hands. If you want to channel this look a different way, simply find garments with unique characteristics on the arms for a less avant garde alternative.
PADDED SHOULDERS It might seem like the 80’s are coming back this season, but we promise this is a trend worth stepping back in time for. Think square shoulders, sharp silhouettes and power dressing. First, raid the charity shops and find yourself a vintage blazer with large shoulder pads. Then, team it with a feminine pussybow blouse to balance out the androgyny a little.
THE COLOUR PINK Pink has officially been unveiled as the trendiest colour to wear this season, so it’s time to go girly. When it comes to acing block colours, you have way more freedom in terms of how you dress up your outfit. You can shop anywhere and for any pretty piece, so long as it’s pink.
KEY ACCESSORY: THE WAIST BELT The classic waist belt has recently popped up across the collections of designers like Balenciaga and Burberry, and we couldn’t be happier about the fact. Everyone loves a flattering accessory like the waist belt, and it’s a relatively inexpensive way to update your last season’s wardrobe.
