A NOTE FROM THE EDITOR

Welcome to the start of 2021 Summer issue of WoM Magazine, where we look back and take stock of what has been a difficult year for some and a close to impossible year for others.

In the descending silence of March 2020, when plans blew to dust and lockdown physically cut us off from friends, cafes, hairdressers and other centres of emotional sanctuary, many of us stumbled along with the attitude of “just get through this. Just grit it out”, amusing ourselves with self-betterment and baking. As the months drew on, “getting through it” and looking on the bright side often made the shadows grow longer and it was easy to be overwhelmed with feelings of guilt, when we could not always keep things together.

In this issue we look at some practical and simple ways to help keep mind and body in as best shape as possible, with the gentle understanding that there is no definitive strategy to ‘fixing’ our mental health and solving our problems. It is instead a quiet process of care and attention to the smaller details, that we present here as five small steps (in no specific order) toward a basic wellbeing maintenance plan, from using food and supplementation to reduce the impacts of stress on the body, to finding ways to get better sleep and even exploring new hobbies.
